Photo Tour: A Royal Weekend in Port Orleans Riverside’s Princess Room

We were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade on our last visit to Port Orleans Riverside. We don’t know how we got this upgrade or what it takes. We do know we go to Disney a lot and this is one of our top resorts, so maybe it is based on frequency of visits. We digress, back to the point, we were upgraded to a Princess Room. What a treat!

When we opened the door I was so excited when I realized we were in a Princess Room, and here we were expecting a Bayou Room (which we love by the way).

When you walk in you see magnificent headboards with a scene from a bayou, portraits of the princesses, and a “note” from Princess Tiana on the table. The note is part of the artwork, you can’t pick it up or take it with you.

This welcome note is quite the visual illusion. All through our stay I kept thinking it was real, and when we were doing our check before we left I almost thought we were leaving the note behind.

Around the mirror are profile silhouettes of the princes that correspond to the princesses in the portraits on the other wall.

Next up as you enter the room you see the Magic Carpet from Aladdin. Seriously, it looks just like the Magic Carpet. I did stand on it to see if I could see a “whole new world” but alas, there is no magic in this Magic Carpet.

The portrait of Princess Tiana is a hologram which is fun to look at from different angles. Take a close look at that frame. It has Snow White’s initials on it and looks like it was made for her. Maybe she gave it to Princess Tiana as a gift.

You’ll find Cinderella’s carriage on the coat hooks. In fact, as you look at this and the other photos of the room you’ll find not only is the theming taken up a notch in these Princess Rooms, but the level of detail or perceived quality of items is also taken up a notch. You’ll find detail on the side of the dresser, what looks like upgraded towel racks, and so on.

Take a close look at that ottoman, looks normal at first glance, but at second glance it has paws! That’s Sultan from Beauty and the Beast! This is why we love Disney — the details are awesome for a Disney fan.

Now, those headboards. They are impressive on their own, but when you press a button on the side of the headboard you are treated to a 30 second fiber-optic light show. I want this at home, now I just need to figure out how to make this!

I already stated we love the level of detail and thought Disney puts into everything. The wallpaper borders are an example of this. In the bedroom section you see Chip, Flora Fauna and Merryweather, Genie and his Lamp, and the mice from Cinderella, all creatures from “the land”. But, when you go into the bathroom you see Pascal preparing the frying pan as a boat, Ray using a leaf as a boat, and Sebastian, all creatures ready to enjoy the water. That is great, they didn’t just slap the same border up in both rooms, but took the time to design and put up two different borders.

The bathroom is another treat. The sink faucet is Genie’s lamp from Aladdin! The shower curtain is decorated with dinglehoopers and thingamabobs from The Little Mermaid. You’ll also see they are using the refillable amenities here as part of Disney’s efforts to reduce the use of single use plastics in the parks and resorts. The body cream is still in a small travel tube, it’s the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the refillable containers.

Overall, this is a fun room to stay in for a night. We really enjoyed looking for and finding all of the details in the room. The headboard was my personal favorite item in the room. If you’re a kid at heart and love Disney go ahead and book this for a extra layer of fun and theming to your vacation. If you need to escape the “noise” when you come back to your room this probably isn’t the room for you. Needless to say if you have kids with you, especially princess fans, go ahead and book this — they will love the room, you will enjoy the details, and everyone can watch the headboard show before bedtime.
